I just had an end of the year concert with All About The Children Daycare. They are the best group of kids. Check out these amazing videos from the show: Hey folks! Mr. Matt here. A few quick things: First - a police officer saved my life the other night. I wanted to start my blog by thanking him. He has a three-year old son with autism. I told him about Turtle Dance Music. Hopefully he visits the website and sees this. If that police officer is reading this blog I just want to let him know that I am grateful for the work that he does and I wanted to thank him again. Second - I visited Dawnwood Middle School yesterday in Long Island and performed for their "Best Buddies" program. Amazing group of middle schoolers. Typically developing students helping out students with special needs. I was blown away. They were so mature for their age. One of the teens performs music regularly at a children's hospital - and he's only in middle school! Outstanding. After the show, I got to sit and talk with students in the lunch room. One of the students on the spectrum, Sammy, started singing these incredible renditions of "Dream On" by Aerosmith and "Rudolph, the Red-nosed Reindeer." The whole room was teeming with excitement and amazement listening to Sammy sing. I would work with that group of kids again in a heartbeat. Every town and city should have something like that program and kudos to places like Dawnwood Middle School that do. Absolutely amazing. Finally, New Orleans, Louisiana. I just got back. I performed for 250 kids last Friday at their camp program. The kids were wonderful. The staff was excellent. Here are some photos below. I have so much to say about N.O.L.A. but I will tell you about it when I speak with you next time in person. Turtle Dance Music's mission is to provide music and educationally enriching performances for all children - no matter what their socio-economic situation is. I performed for the children at A House On Beekman this morning. The kids are so lovely. The teachers told me that some of their kids who are usually very shy loved my performance today. They laughed so much. A House On Beekman is a fantastic early-childhood center located in the South Bronx - it is such a bright spot for these kids in an area that is so cold, desolate, economically depressed and isolated. A food desert. No extra-curricular programs for kids. Yet, A House On Beekman is there to provide a warm, educational atmosphere - an oasis in a desert. I will be doing a free parent-child music and movement concert for their organization in the Fall for the beginning of the school year. If you are interested in getting involved with their organization check out their website. They are trying to fundraise to send more children to their camp program:
http://www.ahouseonbeekman.org/ Turtle Dance Music is proud to support and provide resources to great organizations like A House On Beekman. Their kids are wonderful and they deserve access to educational enrichment and self-regulating opportunities like any other child. One of the parents that I work with - this all-star rock and roll, fab-librarian-momma, Mrs. Jessica B., put together this incredible video from the "Frozen" party that I did for her girls. CHECK-IT-OUT! P.S. Bonus points if you have your party at a Pizzeria. I take my pizza very seriously. Some of my deepest thoughts happen when I am eating pizza. Michelangelo is my favorite ninja turtle and my spirit animal for a reason.
